Key points of space design

2023-10-25

The overall design of the space should align with its intended use, functional requirements, and the psychological needs of its users.

1. Color design of space:

The overall principle of interior color design: rationally utilize color contrast and harmony to achieve the desired effect. The unity of interior color tones can achieve better results under certain conditions. Designers should grasp the scale of color according to the requirements of different functions, so that the entire interior color tone is harmonious, consistent, and rich in variety.

2. Space modeling:

Shape is one of the fundamental elements that constitute space, and it is also an important factor that embodies the designer's aesthetic perspective. Modern interior design increasingly emphasizes innovation and breakthroughs in shape. The new formal beauty created through artistic treatment and technical processing is known as modern plastic arts or modern art design (abbreviated as modern design).

3. Size of space:

The requirements vary according to different functional needs and target users: public activity spaces should be larger; bedrooms and other rest areas can be relatively smaller; kitchens, bathrooms, etc. should be as small as possible. Additionally, attention should be paid to the coordination of proportional relationships between various parts, as well as the integration and transition between different sections.

4. Hierarchies of space:

From the perspective of plane layout, there is usually a distinction between primary and secondary elements: the main parts such as the main wall facing the entrance, the main display surface at the entrance, etc. should be highlighted as key points to show the owner's status and charisma; auxiliary parts such as side halls, staircases, etc. can be appropriately simpler to avoid overshadowing the main elements or giving a sense of chaos.

5. Space decoration:

On the premise of meeting the functional requirements, decoration can be carried out according to personal preferences: for example, various forms of ceiling lighting and the matching of lamp shapes and colors can be used to enhance the atmosphere; wallpaper or wall covering can be selected for wall decoration, and appropriate furniture arrangements can be used to embellish and beautify the environment.

6. Proportion of space:

Proportion is one of the important factors constituting beauty. It refers to the dimensional distribution relationship of the form and structure of things, namely the ratio of length to width to height. In design, the following points should be noted:

(1) Proportional harmony - the interrelationship between various parts should be appropriate.

(2) Variability in proportion - There should be variations in different directions at the same location.

(3) Ratio accuracy - the numerical value is accurate and without error.

(4) Balance of ratios - maintaining the overall sense of balance.

(5) Flexibility and variability of comparison - avoiding the emergence of rigid and inflexible phenomena.

(6) Rhythmic sense of proportion - pursuing harmonious beauty in motion.

7. Atmosphere of the environment:

The atmosphere of an environment refers to the comprehensive sensory experience of psychological and mental states that people perceive in a certain environment; generally speaking, the environmental atmosphere is determined by the visual effects formed by the external features of buildings and their interior decoration and layout.
